Outrigger Pads

Outrigger pads are placed under the outriggers of construction machinery to disperse load, prevent sinking and skidding, protect ground and equipment, and suit outdoor operations of cranes, pump trucks and other heavy-duty machines.

Basic Material Parameters

  1. Molecular Weight: Standard grade ≥ 3 million g/mol; medium-to-heavy-duty grade ≥ 4 million g/mol; specialized grades for heavy-duty wind power and high-tonnage cranes range from 5 million to 7 million g/mol. High molecular weight ensures excellent impact resistance, compressive strength, and wear resistance.
  2. Material Density: 0.93–0.96 g/cm³. The material is lightweight—weighing only one-eighth of a steel plate of the same dimensions—facilitating manual handling, on-site installation, and relocation.
  3. Product Types: Available in standard natural (uncolored), black UV-resistant/weather-resistant, anti-static/explosion-proof, and heavy-duty toughened versions. These are suitable for various operating conditions, including indoor construction sites, outdoor field environments, oilfield and chemical operations, and heavy-duty lifting applications.

Key Mechanical Performance Parameters

  1. Tensile Strength: ≥ 30 MPa; excellent toughness, resistant to cracking or breaking during dragging and lifting operations.
  2. Compressive Strength (10% strain): ≥ 28–55 MPa (≥ 30 MPa for light equipment; ≥ 50 MPa for heavy equipment over 50 tons); resistant to indentation or permanent deformation under long-term load.
  3. Charpy Notched Impact Strength: ≥ 90–160 kJ/m²; excellent low-temperature impact resistance; no brittle cracking or edge chipping in environments as cold as -50°C.
  4. Elongation at Break: ≥ 120%; high toughness with no risk of brittle failure; capable of cushioning instantaneous impact loads during lifting.
  5. Load-Bearing Capacity: Uniformly distributed load capacity of 60–100 tons for 50mm thick pads; 150–300 tons for 80–100mm thick pads; 300–600 tons for 120–200mm thick pads.
  6. Thickness and structural reinforcement can be customized based on equipment tonnage.
Fatigue Resistance: Permanent deformation < 0.6 mm after 10,000 heavy-duty load cycles; resistant to collapse or deformation under repeated rolling loads.

Physical Weather Resistance and Safety Parameters

  1. Operating Temperature Range: -50°C to +80°C; stable performance in extreme temperatures—does not become brittle in winter or soften/deform in summer heat.
  2. Water Absorption: <0.01% (negligible); does not swell, delaminate, or deform in rain, muddy job sites, or humid environments.
  3. Anti-slip Performance: Surface available with diamond or ribbed anti-slip patterns; static friction coefficient of 0.22–0.35 effectively prevents outrigger slippage and ensures lifting safety.
  4. Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to acids, alkalis, saltwater, oil, and cement slurry; does not rust, rot, or mold—suitable for demanding conditions in chemical plants, ports, and mines.
  5. Insulation Properties: Volume resistivity >10¹⁰ Ω·cm; excellent insulation allows for use in power utility construction and live-line work, eliminating electrical conduction risks.

Selection Criteria Based on Operating Conditions

  1. Small Truck-Mounted Cranes (12–25 tons): Select pads with 3 million molecular weight and 50mm thickness.
  2. Mobile Cranes (50–130 tons): Select UV-resistant pads with 4 million molecular weight and 80–100mm thickness.
  3. Heavy-Duty/Wind Power/Crawler Cranes (Over 200 tons): Select pads with >5 million molecular weight and 120–200mm thickness; options available with embedded steel plate reinforcement.
  4. Oilfields, Chemical Plants, and Explosion-Proof Sites: Use specialized anti-static modified pads.
  5. Long-term Outdoor Operations: Must use black, UV-resistant, weather-modified pads to prevent aging and cracking.

Service Life and Application Advantages

  1. Service Life: Up to 50+ years in dry indoor conditions; 25–35 years for outdoor UV-resistant modified versions—far exceeding the lifespan of wooden or standard plastic pads.
  2. Cushioning and protection: Effectively disperses the concentrated pressure from outriggers, protecting asphalt surfaces, lawns, paved areas, and roadbeds from crushing or damage.
  3. Environmental friendliness: The material is non-toxic and odorless, recyclable, and free from preservative chemical contamination, making it an eco-friendly choice.
